3 Ways to Deliver Your Project For Grading

3 Ways to Deliver Your Project For Grading

Mar 20, 2023

We can’t wait to work with you; this is why we want to make sure that your project is delivered in one of the following manners so that we can start working on it right away;

1. By grading your camera RAW material,

2. By grading your Project media or,

3. By grading your final mixdown.

1. Grading from original camera data

We specialize in RAW workflow and grading, this is why we prefer to work from the original camera source material. To make this possible you need to supply;

All Raw camera data

XML or AAF

Reference QuickTime of locked edit with embedded audio.

2. Grading from project media

We can carry on from the moment you lock your edit by grading the same media used in your project. This method will work if your media is Apple ProRes 444, Apple ProRes 422HQ or DNX HD.

You will need to provide a Media Managed project, which will contain all the necessary media that we need for grading and a reference QuickTime of your locked edit.

This method is suitable for media in Apple ProRes 444, Apple ProRes 422HQ, or DNX HD formats. For us to proceed, you'll need to provide:

  • A Media Managed project with all necessary media for grading.
  • A Reference QuickTime of your locked edit.

How to Manage Your Project:

For Adobe Premiere Pro:

  • Open your project and navigate to the “File” menu.
  • Select “Project Manager…” from the dropdown menu.
  • In the Project Manager window, select the sequences you want to export.
  • Choose “Consolidate and Transcode”.
  • Under “Destination Path”, select where you want the managed project to be saved.
  • Make sure to select a format compatible with our grading process (e.g., Apple ProRes).
  • Click “OK” to start the media management process. Premiere Pro will create a folder containing your consolidated project media and a Premiere project file.

For Avid Media Composer:

  • Open your project and navigate to the “File” menu, then choose “Media Tool”.
  • In the Media Tool, select the project and bins you wish to manage.
  • Select “Consolidate/Transcode…”.
  • Choose “Consolidate” and select a target drive with adequate space.
  • Make sure the media format matches what is required for grading (e.g., DNxHD).
  • Proceed with the consolidation, which will gather all your media into a specified location.

After completing these steps, please also include a Reference QuickTime of your locked edit for our reference.

3. Grading final mixdown

Alternatively, you can supply a QuickTime of your locked edit. This process is much faster particularly if you have a lot of FX passes, resizing, or multiple layers.

Please supply your mixdown in of the following formats, RGB 10 bit, Apple ProRes 444 or 422, DNX HD 220 or 185, a PDX sequence.

If possible please provide an EDL of your timeline in CMX 360 format.
